The festive season began to gather pace for Key Stage 2 children from Fairfield School in Backwell, when they visited Southmead Hospital this week and performed a heartwarming hour of Christmas carols in the hospital’s atrium. The young singers spread festive cheer, bringing joy to patients, visitors and staff alike.

Under the skilled direction of the school’s music teachers, Miss Jeffery and Mr West, the children’s repertoire included lively renditions of Jingle Bells, as well as traditional classics like We Three Kings and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, accompanied by Mr West on the grand piano. The performance spread the Christmas spirit and brought smiles to those in the hospital.

This marks the second consecutive year Fairfield School has visited Southmead Hospital to sing Christmas carols. Last year, their performance inspired generous donations, topping the chart for donations among performances held at the hospital during the Christmas period. All donations go to Southmead Hospital Charity, the official charity of North Bristol NHS Trust, which supports vital projects, equipment and patient care initiatives, making this a truly worthy cause.

Headteacher Mrs. Lesley Barton praised the children for their enthusiasm and lively performance:

“Our pupils never fail to amaze us with their enthusiasm and dedication. Performing carols at Southmead Hospital is a wonderful way for the children to share the joy of Christmas while supporting a cause that makes such a difference to so many lives. We are so grateful to Southmead Hospital for inviting us back for another year.”

The hospital staff were equally delighted to host the children. A spokesperson for Southmead Hospital commented, “It’s wonderful to see the atrium filled with music, laughter, and holiday spirit. The Fairfield School children, along with all of our other performers, have once again brightened everyone’s day, and we are so grateful for their support and the donations they help raise for the hospital charity.”

The school hopes to make the performance an annual tradition, continuing to inspire festive generosity and lifting the spirits of those in the hospital.
