Following our play-based curriculum, outdoor education forms an integral part of learning and your child will enjoy time spent exploring and investigating the outdoor environment. They also have opportunities to enjoy music, performing arts and sport. Art is embedded throughout the curriculum.
Discover the Reception CurriculumPhysical development is a key part of EYFS and your child will benefit from being taught by specialist sports teachers twice a week who will introduce your child to games and P.E. Swimming is a weekly activity for all children from Reception to Year 6.
Music forms an integral part of our curriculum and is usually linked to our whole school themed approach to the curriculum. Children in Reception enjoy a music lesson every week delivered by a specialist and also join the whole school for hymn practice.
Your child will be introduced to performing arts in their very first term with us, as the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) perform a Nativity play to the rest of the school, parents and families. It’s a memorable and fun experience for all involved.
The children in Reception take part in another performance in the Summer Term.
From Reception, children are taken on school trips to explore and learn in new and exciting settings. We also welcome visitors to the school for interactive workshops that help to spark the imagination.
Reception children are paired with Reading Buddies from Year 4. The Year 4 children love the opportunity to read stories to their Buddies and our Reception children enjoy building friendships. The paired classes occasionally share a welly walk through the school grounds.
