At Fairfield, learning does not stop at the classroom door. Our opportunities in music, sports, performing arts, clubs and outdoor learning help our pupils to develop as rounded people and unlock hidden talents.
Discover the Junior CurriculumSport is taught by specialist teachers twice a week and swimming is a weekly activity for all children from Reception to Year 6.
We offer an extremely wide choice of sports, which changes termly and gives children the opportunity to try everything!
The school regularly competes at sports fixtures against other Bristol independent schools and ISA regional sporting events.
We make it possible for every child to represent the school at sport if they wish as we compete at all levels to suit all abilities, helping your child to develop in friendly competitive sports wherever their talents lie.
Music forms an integral part of our curriculum and is taught by specialist teachers. The classes are usually linked to our whole school topic themed approach to the curriculum.
Our children study individual composers and genres of music, from classical music to rock and pop. We welcome visiting musicians, who bring different aspects of music to life for our children.
Children can choose to join the school choir, Junior orchestra or Fairfield rock band and all children sing every week during our school hymn practice.
Your child will gain valuable experience in performing in front of an audience when they perform at our school assemblies, productions and services.
We have many talented musicians within the school and individual music tuition is available.
Speak to AdmissionsWe aim to build confidence in all our pupils to speak publicly.
They deliver a class ‘Family Assembly’ each term to the school and parents. This helps them to develop in confidence.
The Juniors also perform a drama production in the spring term, where each child has a speaking part.
By Year 6 the children are equipped to lead our Annual Carol Service, Founders’ Day Service, our Easter Service, Remembrance Day Service, as well as perform a Shakespeare production in the summer term.
Pupils also have the option to attend speech and drama classes as an extra-curricular activity.
Book a visitYear 6 is a special and transformative year for our students, marking their role as leaders of the school. During this time, children take on various responsibilities that help them grow in confidence and maturity.
As part of their leadership journey, Year 6 pupils assume key roles within the school, such as:
These roles allow them to work collaboratively and develop valuable leadership skills. Through their final year with us we see our pupils develop and mature, ready to embark on their next educational chapter at senior school.
Discover FairfieldWe introduce residential school trips from Year 3, starting with a one-night stay away, increasing to a two night stay away in Years 4 and 5 which builds up to a four night stay away in Year 6.
Residential trips offer your child the opportunity to build close bonds with their peers, grow in self-confidence and experience adventurous outdoor pursuits.
