Initially following the teachings of Charlotte Mason, the school offers a well-structured curriculum where children are treated as individuals by both teachers and parents. Since its inception, Fairfield has been affiliated with the Parents’ National Education Union (PNEU) and this affiliation continues today.
From the start, Fairfield’s creative curriculum embraced literature, art and science rather than solely teaching reading, writing and arithmetic. At Fairfield, we continue to emphasise the development of each child within a balanced, vibrant and creative curriculum.
By 1947, Fairfield School’s growing popularity led to its relocation from the National School building in Backwell Farleigh to the larger 2-acre site where the school is still located today. This new site includes a playing field, tennis court, conservation area, woodland area, outdoor learning area and on-site car park.
When Miss Lambert retired, a group of parents took over its management and in 1964, the school became a registered educational charity. Today, Fairfield School is administered by our Board of Governors, who ensure the school evolves to meet the needs of modern education.
We celebrate our history every September with a memorable Founders’ Day Service.
Fairfield School’s heritage is symbolised in our logo, featuring a skylark bird, representing the ability of each child to rise to great heights. Our motto, ‘I am, I can, I ought, I will’ celebrates individuality and the commitment to being our best selves:
Our Lambs Nursery, named after Miss Lambert, who was affectionately known as Lamb, continues her legacy of nurturing young minds.
